Obituary for John D. Heizman

John D. Heizman
John Daniel Heizman, 65, of Clinton, Missouri died Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at his home.

He was born March 20, 1949 in Sedalia, Mo., the son of Daniel Louis Heizman and Gladys L. (Morgan) Heizman. Growing up in Warsaw, Mo., he graduated from Warsaw High School. He then attended Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar, Mo., where he met his future wife, Etta Johnson. They were married on January 23, 1969 in Bolivar. She survives of the home.

John was employed by Sonoco Products Company for 33 years. He began his career in Louisiana, Mo., in 1969, literally sweeping floors, ultimately managing paper mills in Rockton, Illinois and Lancaster, Ohio. The Village of Rockton proclaimed November 27, 1992, "John Heizman Day" in acknowledgement of his contributions to the community. In 1993, John received the American Forest and Paper Association's Safety Award for primary operations. He was a past member of the Rockton/Roscoe Lions Club in Rockton, Illinois; the Rockton Kiwanis, and the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce. After retiring from Sonoco in 2002, his life-long love of golf led him to his perfect retirement job with GolfWorks of Newark, Ohio, where he was employed until 2008.

In addition to his wife Etta, John is survived by two sons, Steven Heizman, his wife Monica, and their daughter Katy of Cottage Grove, Wisconsin, and Matthew Heizman, his wife May Jong and their son Marcus of Los Angeles, California; one sister, Linda Raasch of Lake Ozark, Mo.; niece and great-niece, Laura Holman and Claire Holman of Boonville, Mo.; one uncle, Earnest Morgan and his wife Helen of Albany, New York; two aunts, Christine Riley of Sedalia, Mo., and Voncille Hewitt of Springfield, Mo.; his father-in-law, Merle Johnson and his wife Roselee of Clinton, Mo.; and numerous loving cousins, in-laws, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family would like to thank Twin Lakes Hospice and John's dedicated care team, particularly Teri Keltner and Diane Kirchgessner.

Per John's wishes, his body was cremated after organ donation for Frontotemporal Degeneration research.

Memorial services will be at 7:00 p.m. Monday, February 9, 2015 at the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service, at the funeral home. The family suggests memorial contributions to The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD), at Radnor Station Building 2, Suite 8320, 290 King of Prussia Road, Radnor, Pennsylvania 19087, or these donations may be left in care of the funeral home.
